A Glimpse of HAJONG community
One amongst the indigenous groups of India and Bangladesh, HAJONG is an indigenous community with rich culture of it’s own.
There are numerous writings on HAJONG across web but all of those have insufficient and inauthentic information. As all of those don’t come from a proper survey and observation rather than just out of assumption and opinion from a few number of peoples, those writings conclude with misinformation.
Name: HAJONG
Places Living: INDIA & BANGLADESH
Language: They talk in their own language called after it’s community name, “HAJONG”. But have variations. People living western side of river Someshwari in Bangladesh and India have same accent but people living in eastern side of river Someshwari in Bangladesh have different accent. The first one reflects more Indian Hajong accent with Assamese vibe and the second one reflects the pure Hajong accent with Bengali vibe.
Food Culture: Rich with numerous traditional foods, Hajong peoples have a strong bond with nature in the sense of pure food sources. Baking Soda is a key item making their foods more different and delicious.
Attire: Traditional attire called “Pathin” of women is an addition in making their culture more reflective.
There is a phoneme in HAJONG language that doesn’t exist in other languages like Bangla, Hindi even in English making it more difficult to write with conventional letters used in these languages. They use Bangla script with extra unused(ৗ) letter in Bangladesh and Assamese script in India. Because of having no writing script of their own, this language tends to change.
In conclusion, HAJONG peoples are very fond of peace.
